Carey grew up in the sunshine of South Florida. Shortly after graduating from the University of
Miami and securing a Master of Business Administration Degree from Nova Southeastern
University he began developing his commitment to the nonprofit sector by volunteering with
Make-A-Wish of Southern Florida as a Wishmaker, helping to plan events and raise funds in
support of children with life-threatening illnesses. Several years later, that volunteer work
turned into an official role as a Volunteer Coordinator Manager. Carey spent over 10 years in
the private sector planning large-scale construction projects and securing financing for real
estate and land acquisitions.
Seeking a way to more broadly serve his country, Carey left the beach and ocean behind to
head to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, NC, where he worked for more than 6 years for
the Department of Homeland Security. During his time with the Department of Homeland
Security, Carey continued his charitable endeavors through volunteer fundraising efforts for
organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, and Oxford Home for
Children (Oxford, NC). He even organized his own food truck competition and festival with an
eye toward exposing his community to the amazing food offered by the local food trucks.
In addition to his nonprofit work, Carey enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his two
dogs, Beamer and Cole, and all things food related. Carey is looking forward to using his
fundraising experience and skills to support No Barriers USA.
