Dave Young received an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) commission upon graduating from Western Michigan University. He spent two years with the 8th Infantry Division in Germany—he was there when the Berlin Wall went up. As a quartermaster officer, Dave was in charge of a fleet of gas tankers, as well as warehouses of military clothing and equipment. After his tour in Germany, he attended Army flight school and became a helicopter pilot. Dave later transferred to the Coast Guard and became a Search and Rescue Pilot.
Now retired, Dave and his family consider themselves lucky to be living in Traverse City, Michigan. He works as a bus driver and enjoys spending time with his wife swimming, sailing, fishing, hunting and skiing. Through this expedition, Dave hopes to have an exciting adventure, as he views this as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Meeting and working with members of his military family in a beautiful outdoor setting will be an unforgettable experience.
