Joseph Canavan served in the US Army from 1975-1978, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as an airborne infantryman. While there, he had the opportunity to attend the Canadian Army’s parachute school, as well as the US Army Jungle Warfare Training Center in Panama.
These days, Joseph is a member of a running team which combats homelessness through the power of running. His team helps provide resources, as well as a sense of belonging and accomplishment. Through this expedition, Joseph hopes to fulfill his dream of climbing a mountain. He is sure that the sense of accomplishment gained by overcoming the hardships involved, especially when shared with a team of fellow veterans, will last a lifetime. He looks forward to taking some of things he learns on the expedition back into his civilian life, to help others develop the same the team-building skills and techniques.
Joseph is an alumnus of the Colorado 4-Day Base Camp Expedition that took place July 1-4, 2016.
