Pedro San Miguel always felt a calling to serve his community — it is what inspired him to enlist in the U.S. Army. After two years as a power generation mechanic, he transitioned to the role of military policeman, where he served out the remainder of his nearly 22-year military career. Throughout his tenure, San Miguel was stationed all over the world and served in support of Operation Joint Guard, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge.
San Miguel has been married for 15 years and has four children. As a civilian, he enjoys being a stay-at-home dad and the chance to make up for lost time with his family. San Miguel anticipates this expedition will be an opportunity to help rediscover himself. Since separating from service, he has found it difficult to be hopeful. He believes this journey will allow him to regain his sense of inner determination, and looks forward to the support and encouragement of fellow veterans.
