A Midwest native (Pella, IA), Sam is a fresh Fort Collins transplant. Even as a young tot, Sam had traveled to Colorado nearly every year with family and friends to visit relatives, hike, and ski — a pattern that quickly made Colorado a home away from home. After graduating from Central College in 2016 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Spanish, he moved to Fort Collins on a whim of sorts, abandoning work in craft coffee and beer with hopes to find opportunities in the design field.
Sam discovered No Barriers by chance, and he was instantly captivated by the organizational mission to “unleash the potential of the human spirit,” as well as the incredible staff and shared belief in the transformational qualities of both nature and travel. Most of all, Sam identifies with No Barriers’ mission of fostering community-based self-realization, and (symptomatic of a philosophy background) the idea that every human being is innately unique and in a perpetual state of becoming.
Sam blames a liberal arts education for his maintaining an absurd and ever-growing number of interests and hobbies. In his spare time, he most enjoys a good existential conversation, making music, reading, cooking, gardening, and backpacking in the heavenly Colorado wilderness.
