Thank you to our corporate partners Wells Fargo, Arrow Electronics, and Unlimited Tomorrow for making this Challenge possible.

The No Barriers Global Impact Challenge is an annual competition that challenges student teams to address a critical barrier that matters to them. Using the No Barriers Life framework to guide them on their journey, teams create a project proposal which they believe will have a positive impact on their community. In the process, they develop the mindset and skills needed to tackle the challenges of life, long after the program ends.

The two tracks this year are Diversity & Inclusion sponsored by Wells Fargo and Technology for Accessibility sponsored by Unlimited Tomorrow and ARROW.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Creatively address an equity issue while also raising awareness of the value of diverse representation and inclusion.
  • Technology for Accessibility: Address an accessibility issue through the innovative use of technology that makes life better for people living with disabilities.

WHY JOIN the no barriers global impact challenge?

Student development

This project is designed to develop key life skills such as: teamwork, communication and project planning & management. All while applying these skills to innovative projects which will make a lasting, positive impact in their community.

win up to $2,500 for your project

We want to provide our winning teams with the opportunity to see their project come to fruition. Our cash prizes give you the chance to develop your project further and implement it within your own community.

make a difference

It's so rare that you have the chance to change a societal issue that you see creating barriers within your community. Here's your chance to do something about it and lead your team to really make a difference!
No Barriers unleashes the potential of educators and their students, giving them the mindset and tools to break through barriers and lead with purpose. Past years’ teams have designed amazing projects that address barriers such as the absence of an authentic mental health curriculum, inaccessible clothing design for people with disabilities, and the lack of positive activities and support for young men transitioning out of incarceration. We’re grateful to our sponsors for helping to make this program possible.

September – December 2021: Teams complete program workshops
February 2022: Complete proposals and media projects and submit
March 2022: Winners announced!
April – June 2022: Projects are implemented, and stories are created and shared

How much can our group win?

Winning teams can receive seed money up to $2,500 (dependent on available funding).

How many students should be on a team?

We recommend having at least 5 students on a team, with a maximum of 10 students.

Can I form more than one team?

Yes! You may form and work with more than one team at your school or organization. If you have multiple teams, each team that wants to enter the GIC must submit their own unique proposal.

How should I recruit students?

You know your school or organization best, so who you target and how you recruit is up to you. If you’d like, we can provide you with a one-page flyer about the program that you can distribute, post, or attach to an email. There may be specific classes or clubs you want to target. Or you may even want to engage a full class in the GIC (with this option, you would need to form multiple teams of 5-10 students on each team).
