Eligibility

Our expeditions are open to veterans with service-connected disabilities.

We serve veterans from all branches and eras of service and can accommodate veterans with a wide range of disabilities including but not limited to visual impairment, amputation, PTSD, TBI, and severe burns. Specific questions about eligibility or disability can be directed to warriors@nobarriersusa.org or call (970)484-3633 ext 321.

Proof of Service and Proof of Disability

When applying to expeditions, we require proof of service through a DD214 and proof of service connected disability through a VA rating. This can oftentimes be the most challenging part of completing an application.

Below we provide a few options regarding documentation attachment. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Warriors Service Coordinator at (970) 484-3633 ext. 321.

Documentation Attachment

If an applicant is actively serving and would like to be considered, please provide a picture of your military ID and a letter/document from your doctor, psychologist, commanding officer, or Warrior Transition Unit detailing information about your service connected disability.

We know that your documents contain personal information. Please cover up/hide your personal information (Social Security #). Below is a list of the minimum information we need to see on each form submitted.

null

There are 5 ways to have documents attached to your application.
  1. If your documents are saved on your device, click choose file and attach your document from your computer.
  2. If you only have a hard copy of your documents, cover any unneeded information and take a picture of your hard copy of your document with your phone. Upload the picture as an attachment.
  3. Scan your hard copy to your computer and then attach it to your application.
  4. Call the Warriors Service Coordinator (WSC) at (970) 484-3633 ext. 321 and let them know you plan to fax your documents to them. The WSC will provide you with the fax, wait to receive your documents, attach them to your application and then shred your documents. (Note: In this instance, “filler documents” must still be uploaded into the upload section to move on with the application. This can be a blank word document or the WSC particularly appreciates happy dog photos.)
  5. Mail in a copy of your documents to the Warriors Service Coordinator at the address below. The WSC will receive your documents, attach them to your application and then shred your documents. (Note: In this instance, “filler documents” must still be uploaded into the upload section to move on with the application. This can be a blank word document or the WSC particularly appreciates happy dog photos.)

No Barriers Warriors General Essential Eligibility Criteria

The mission of No Barriers Warriors is to improve the lives of veterans with disabilities through curriculum-based experiences in challenging environments. No Barriers Warriors values diversity and inclusion in our programming and the emotional, mental, and physical well being of our participants is the top priority. While we specialize in integrating veterans with disabilities in our programming, No Barriers Warriors is not a wilderness therapy program.

The No Barriers Warriors Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC) is a list of the physical and cognitive requirements for participation in No Barriers Warriors expeditions. These are not intended to be exclusionary, but a resource for veterans with disabilities when considering participation in a No Barriers Warriors program. These criteria are related to worst case scenarios. They cover all situations that may occur on expeditions.

If you have concerns about your ability to meet certain criteria, please speak with No Barriers Warriors staff member to determine if reasonable accommodations can be made to facilitate your participation in our programming. If you have questions about the No Barriers Warriors Essential Eligibility Criteria, or if you have questions about the implementation of the EEC, please contact the Warriors Service Coordinator at warriors@nobarriersusa.org or call our staff at 970.484.3633 ext.321.

All participants on a No Barriers Warriors expedition must be able to meet the following general requirements without assistance from a personal aide or caregiver:
